What is a "Photo Safari" ?
Apart from the unique physical comforts of accommodations and dining, most lodges offer a standard list of activities for their guests. Many will offer a “photo safari”. This is a relatively new option and has become popular in recent years.
WHAT EXACTLY IS A “PHOTOGRAPHY SAFARI” ?
There are a few interpretations and the most common is:
“Go on a game drive and you can take photographs of what we see”.
…well, yes, but isn`t that what happens on a game drive anyway ?
Unfortunately, this is what an alarming amount of lodges refer to as a “photo safari”
and this is offered as an activity.
PHOTOGRAPHY IS THE STAR.
One goes on a photography safari with the purpose of taking photographs of what you
find. Sometimes it is specific or as hobby. It can be for a long or short period
of time and can involve being in a vehicle, on foot or static at a hide. What
a photo safari should also include is a guide or instructor with a very good
knowledge of photography and equipment. This is so the photographer enthusiasts
can get instant help from a real, seasoned photographer. An added advantage is if
your photographer is also a knowledgable guide. There are thousands of camera owners
who are unfamiliar or intimidated by the equipment they own, that they simply do not
use it.

The experience
We would like to share more than a photo safari with you. As well as the photography orientated activities, we would also share knowledge of the area we're in and what we're looking at. Weather it is on foot or on a vehicle we would also like you to know a little more about the things you photograph.
The lodges are small and comfortable with private rooms and an open social areas. Some are fully staffed while others are self catering but fully serviced. The vehicles used are game drive vehicles with no windows which make them ideal for photography.
The knowledge and expertise of the guides and staff at the various lodges will add to your safari experience.
The photography
The photography is for everyone at all sorts of levels from beginner to pro. So if you are new to the game this is a place where you can learn the fundamentals as well as enjoy the wildlife around you. Keen enthusiasts can brush up on their knowledge and skills with workshops and discussions. Pros will do what they do.
The availability and whereabouts of the wildlife in our present destinations is unpredictable and so we photograph what we find on each outing, from the biggest to the smallest, mobile or static. This makes the outings less intense and so will allow you to just enjoy the outdoors too !
The workshops will give a good insight into everything photographic from getting to know your own equipment through to printing and framing your own fine art masterpiece.
